Stocking Up On The Essentials

When your little one has chicken pox, so you stock up on the essentials.

  • Aveeno Oil – A number of individuals have suggested I use oatmeal in his bath, as it helps to soothe the skin, and helps to stop the poxes from becoming itchy.
  • Calamine Lotion – I received this prescription on our visit to see the doctor when I noticed the ‘rash’. Although a couple of individuals have said I shouldn’t bother using it, but I still do. I dab some on each pox four times a day! I remember having it used on me as a child, when I had chicken pox (approx.) aged six. The smell is exactly the same and brought back memories. Both my older sister and I had it at the same time.
  • Piriton – I was about to purchase some Calpol, when a lady came into the pharmacy and overheard my conversation with the pharmacist. She told me to purchase Piriton instead, as my son did not have a fever or a cold, so Calpol wouldn’t actually help him.

I must say, the combination of the three seems to be working. Little Yum-Yum hasn’t scratched at all. Fingers crossed he won’t have any scarring once the poxes have cleared up.

Now to to convince him to eat a little more, as he has lost his appetite.

Oatmeal baths also help, Persia. You put some raw oatmeal in a strainer and swish it through the water. There’s a milky substance that come out and is good to stop the itching. Take care.
